Yoga Alliance RYT 200 Certification Explained

What Is RYT 200?

RYT stands for Registered Yoga Teacher. "200" refers to 200 hours of training. Yoga Alliance is the largest international registry for yoga schools and teachers. When you complete a Yoga Alliance–registered 200-hour yoga teacher training, you can apply to become an RYT 200. That credential is recognized by studios, gyms, and insurers in many countries, including the Philippines. It signals that you've met a defined standard of training in techniques, teaching methodology, anatomy, and philosophy.

RYT 200 is the entry-level teaching credential. There are higher levels (e.g. RYT 500, E-RYT for experienced teachers), but 200 hours is the standard starting point. Many studios and employers expect at least RYT 200 for lead teachers. Insurance providers for yoga teachers often require or favor Yoga Alliance registration. So even if you're not sure you'll teach full-time, having the RYT 200 opens doors and protects you if you do.

What a 200-Hour Program Must Cover

Yoga Alliance requires a minimum of 200 hours, including: techniques (asana, pranayama, etc.), teaching methodology, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy and ethics, and practicum (actual teaching). The hours are broken down into categories—for example, a certain number must be contact hours with a qualified teacher. Our 200hr YTT Davao and 200hr YTT Siargao are designed to meet and exceed these requirements so you're well prepared to register as RYT 200 and start teaching.

Schools must be registered with Yoga Alliance (Registered Yoga School, RYS 200) for their graduates to register as RYT 200. When you're researching programs, check that the school is an RYS 200 in good standing. That way you know your certificate will be accepted when you apply to Yoga Alliance. After Graduation: Registering with Yoga Alliance

Once you complete our program, you'll receive a certificate. You then submit your hours and school details to Yoga Alliance to become an RYT 200. There's a registration fee (check Yoga Alliance's website for current rates). The process is straightforward: you create an account, upload your certificate and training details, and pay the fee. Approval usually comes within a few days to a couple of weeks.

After that, you can list yourself on the Yoga Alliance directory and use the RYT 200 designation when applying for teaching jobs or insurance. You'll need to renew your registration periodically and complete continuing education to maintain your status. Yoga Alliance sends reminders, so you don't have to track it alone. Many of our graduates complete the registration within a month of finishing the 200hr YTT and then start teaching—locally, online, or both.

Teaching Opportunities with RYT 200

With RYT 200 you can apply to teach at studios, gyms, corporate wellness programs, and online platforms. In the Philippines, the yoga scene is growing; there's demand for well-trained teachers. You can also teach privately, offer workshops, or combine teaching with another career. The credential doesn't guarantee a job, but it does show that you've completed a recognized program and are serious about teaching safely and ethically.
